When we watch some sports competitions, we often see athletes' fingers, arms, knees, joints and other body parts will be attached to some colorful tape, do you know which are what? Do you know their specific purpose? Let's learn more about sports muscle patch tape.

Kenisio Tape was first invented by Dr. Kenso Kase, D.C. in Japan in the late 1970s, named after the English word "kinesiology" and designed to prevent muscle strains or joint sprains in the process of sports. Nowadays, it is also used to repair muscle injuries and restore joint health.

Structure of the Kinesiology Tape

The intramuscular patch is divided into three layers: the outermost layer is a breathable and elastic waterproof cotton fabric (so the patch can be stretched within a certain limit, up to 130-150%), the middle layer is usually acrylic adhesive, Toyo Ink oil adhesive, Henkel oil adhesive, etc., and the inner layer is a grid paper, which is easier to use. The adhesive surface of the middle layer is distributed in a water ripple pattern, which increases the elasticity and breathability of the tape and makes it easier to remove. Qualified adhesive coated on the patch should pass the biocompatibility test, generally not easy to cause skin allergy and does not contain drug ingredients.

How kinesiology tape works?

By stretching the patch (≤30%) when applying it, the rebound force pulls the skin to increase the gap between the skin and the subcutaneous tissue, which in turn affects the flow of the subcutaneous fascia tissue, allowing the fascia system to have sufficient permeability and circulation, and promoting lymphatic and blood circulation. This is also known as a "neurological application".

Appropriate stretching of the patch, in the direction of the contraction of the muscle in the area to be assisted, can to some extent create an "external muscle" with similar function to assist the contraction of the original muscle.

Effect of kinesiology tape

1. There is a therapeutic effect for the application of intramuscular effect patches that may increase skeletal muscle strength

2. Different methods of application may produce different inhibitory effects

3. Intramuscular patches have a preventive effect on injury

4. the appropriate application method of intramuscular patches has a role in limiting the range of motion of joints

5. It is very helpful for the recovery of patients with muscle strains
